After a car has been washed, but before any protection products are added to it, it’s important that it is properly decontaminated.

There are several ways to go about this. If it’s the case that the car is getting a machine polish, then a common step is to clay the car. However, if the car doesn’t need a claying, it’s still important to remove contaminants from the car. Whilst it would be hoped that these would be removed during the normal wash, this isn’t always the case. Instead, it’s important that the car has these contaminants removed. Not doing so can actually be detriemtnal to the appearance as well as the overall condition of the paint work.

Generally speaking, there are two main contaminants that should be removed before a wax, sealant or ceramic coating is applied to it. The first is the removal of any fallout that is present on the car.

The second route is to remove any tar that is present on the car since this can be particularly unsightly.
